Bwindi has more mountain gorillas, with about 20 gorilla families living in four sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo.

Mgahinga has only one gorilla family that moves across the park. If you want to see more gorilla families, Bwindi is the better choice.

Bwindi offers more gorilla permits than Mgahinga. With 20 gorilla families and only 8 people allowed per group each day, Bwindi has about 160 permits available daily.

Mgahinga, with only one gorilla family, offers just 8 permits per day. This means it is easier to get a permit in Bwindi than in Mgahinga.

Cost of Gorilla Permits

Both Bwindi and Mgahinga charge the same price for gorilla permits. A permit costs USD 800 for foreign non-residents, USD 700 for foreign residents, and UGX 300,000 for East African citizens.

Accommodation

Both parks have accommodation options ranging from luxury to mid-range and budget.

Bwindi has more choices because the lodges are spread across its four sectors, making it easier even for last-minute travelers.

Some lodges in Bwindi include Buhoma Lodge, Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge, and Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Lodge.

In Mgahinga, options include Mount Gahinga Rest Camp and Mount Gahinga Lodge.

Trekking Conditions
