Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Your Gorilla Hurly Burly driver-guide meets you at Kigali airport and briefs you on the trip during the drive to Volcanoes National Park. Depending on your arrival time, you may pass through Kigali city at a relaxed pace.
The drive gives you clear views of the Virunga mountains and Rwanda’s rolling hills along the way. You arrive at the park in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Departure
After breakfast, you drive to park headquarters for a short briefing on gorilla trekking rules from a local ranger. You join a group of eight trekkers assigned to one gorilla family for the day.
The trek takes you onto the lower slopes of Mount Karisimbi or Mount Bisoke, depending on your assigned group. Trails can be slippery and poorly marked in places, so a walking stick helps with balance on steeper sections.
Once you find the gorillas, you spend one hour observing them. You might see the silverback keeping watch over the family, young gorillas playing in the trees, or mothers caring for their infants. Photos are welcome throughout the visit, though flash photography is not allowed.
After your hour ends, you return to park headquarters, then to the lodge for lunch and checkout. From there, you drive back to Kigali and head straight to the airport for your flight home.
