Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Drive to Volcanoes National Park
Your Gorilla Hurly Burly driver-guide picks you up from Kigali International Airport, explains the safari plan, and hands over your documents and gorilla permits. You then drive north to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in time for a meal and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking and Boat Ride on the Twin Lakes
After breakfast at 6:00 AM, you head to park headquarters by 6:30 AM for registration and a briefing before your first trek. Trekking takes 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, followed by one hour observing the group with help from your park ranger for photos.
After lunch and a short rest, you take a boat ride on the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, located at the base of Mount Muhabura near the Rwanda-Uganda border. The lakes sit separated by a narrow strip of land and support many bird species. Dinner and overnight stay follow, with views of the Virunga Mountains.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Visit
After breakfast, you return to park headquarters for your second trek, this time visiting a different gorilla group. After lunch and rest, you visit the Gorilla Guardian Village, also known as Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, learning about Rwandan farming, food preparation, traditional dress, marriage customs, beer brewing, herbal medicine, and traditional dance.
Day 4: Drive Back to Kigali, City Tour, and Departure
After breakfast, you check out by 8:00 AM and drive back to Kigali. In the city, you visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial, craft markets, and other points of interest before transferring to Kigali International Airport for your flight home.
