Detailed 7-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale National Park
Your Gorilla Hurly Burly driver-guide welcomes you and briefs you on the safari before driving you to Kibale National Park, known as the primate capital of the world with 13 primate species. You pass tea and banana plantations and crater lakes along the way. You check in at your lodge for lunch, rest, and dinner.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk
After breakfast, you drive to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a ranger briefing, then head into the rainforest to search for chimpanzees. The trek can take a few hours as the chimps keep moving, with chances to spot red-tailed monkeys and colobus monkeys along the way. Once you find them, you spend one hour watching them communicate, play, and groom.
After lunch at the lodge, you take an evening nature walk at Bigodi Swamp, spotting primates, sitatungas, and birds including the great blue turaco. Dinner follows at the lodge.
Day 3: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Evening Game Drive
After breakfast, you drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second-largest park and a top spot for tree-climbing lions. You check in at your lodge, then drive to the Ishasha sector to search for lions resting in fig and acacia trees. Dinner follows at the lodge.
Day 4: Game Drive in Kasenyi Plains and Evening Boat Cruise
After breakfast, you take a game drive through Kasenyi Plains, spotting elephants, warthogs, and buffaloes with the Rwenzori Mountains in the background. After lunch, you take an evening boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, seeing hippos, crocodiles, and birds like flamingos and pelicans. Dinner follows at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, you drive to southwestern Uganda, home to Bwindi and half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. You enjoy highland views along the way, checking in at your lodge for rest and dinner.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Experience
After breakfast, you attend a briefing at park headquarters, then trek into the forest with your ranger guide, a hike that can take 5 to 7 hours. Once you find the gorillas, you spend one hour watching them move, play, and groom each other. After lunch, you visit the Batwa community to learn their traditional fire-making, hunting, and gathering methods, along with dances and stories from the elders. Dinner follows at the lodge.
Day 7: Travel Back to Kampala and Fly Home
After breakfast, you check out and drive back to Kampala, stopping at the Equator in Kayabwe for photos. After lunch, you continue to Entebbe Airport for your departure flight.
