Detailed 4-Day Double Gorilla Tracking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your Gorilla Hurly Burly driver meets you at your hotel or the airport and briefs you on the trip before heading to southern Uganda, passing green landscapes and small towns. You stop at the Uganda Equator for photos and a water experiment, then have lunch at Igongo Cultural Center before continuing to the Buhoma sector of Bwindi.
Buhoma holds four gorilla groups open for trekking year-round: Katwe, Mubare, Habinyanja, and Rushegura, with 32 permits available daily. You check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
After breakfast, you register at the Buhoma park office for a briefing before starting your trek with armed ranger guides and porters. Along the way, you may spot elephants, forest buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and chimpanzees. The trek can take 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location.
Once you find them, you spend one hour observing and photographing the group, then collect your gorilla trekking certificate before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you transfer to the eastern side of Bwindi for your second trek.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, you prepare for your second trek in the Ruhija sector, home to four gorilla groups, three of which are open for tourism. After a briefing at the park office, you trek through thick forest and misty hills, a hike taking 30 minutes to 4 hours before you find the gorillas.
You spend one hour watching and photographing the group, then return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you travel to Lake Bunyonyi for a community walk or boat ride around some of its 29 islands, a relaxing close to two days of trekking.
Day 4: Return to Entebbe or Kampala and Departure
After breakfast, you drive back to Entebbe or Kampala, stopping in Mbarara Town for lunch and visiting the Mpambire drum makers for souvenirs along the way.
