2-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Bisoke Hike

These two days in Rwanda give you the chance to explore some of the country’s best tourist attractions.

You will trek to see mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and get very close to these endangered animals in their natural home.

The trip also includes a hike to the top of Mount Bisoke, one of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga mountain range.

Detailed 2-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Bisoke Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Volcanoes National Park & Gorilla Trekking

Early in the morning, have breakfast and start your journey to Volcanoes National Park. You need to arrive in time for the gorilla trekking briefing at 7:00 am at the park headquarters.

After the briefing, visitors are divided into groups of eight, which is the maximum number of people allowed to visit each gorilla family per day.

The trek takes you through the thick forest at the lower slopes of Mount Karisimbi, Huye, or Bisoke, depending on which gorilla family you are assigned.

You will walk along narrow paths, dodge thorny bushes, and clear your way through the forest. When you finally meet the gorillas, you will spend one special hour in their presence.

It is a moment you will never forget, especially when you make eye contact with the powerful silverback watching over its group.

After the one hour, return to the park headquarters, then continue to your lodge to relax and enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Hike Mount Bisoke & Return to Kigali

Wake up and enjoy a tasty breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a short briefing about the Mount Bisoke hike. Mount Bisoke is one of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga range.

The hike to the top takes about 4 to 6 hours depending on your pace.

You will walk through rough and slippery paths, moving past thorny trees and climbing up the mountain. When you reach the top, you will enjoy wide views of the Virunga mountains, the green hills, and the nearby towns.

After the hike, have lunch and drive back to Kigali for your flight.
