Detailed 6-Day Serengeti & Rwanda Gorilla Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, our driver and guide will pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Arusha. Then you will drive to the wide plains of Serengeti National Park, famous for the annual wildebeest migration, a natural world wonder.

The Serengeti plains are great hunting grounds for big cats like leopards, lions, and cheetahs. You will have a chance to see some of these animals during your visit.

Arrive in the afternoon, have lunch, then enjoy an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight stay at your camp or lodge.

Day 2: Game Drives in Serengeti

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive to spot big cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, who are more active in the cooler morning hours.

Return to the camp or lodge for lunch and rest, then head out again for more wildlife viewing.

You can expect to see many animals, including elephants, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, elands, reedbucks, waterbucks, gazelles, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, and jackals.

You may also see many different birds. Dinner and overnight at your camp or lodge.

Day 3: Drive to Ngorongoro Crater & Transfer to Arusha

After an early breakfast and with packed lunch, check out and drive to Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater is a natural wonder with almost 30,000 animals and many bird species.

During your game drive on the crater floor, you will see many animals found in East African savannahs except for topis, giraffes, and impalas.

Then drive up to the crater rim for lunch at a picnic spot with great views. After lunch, transfer to Arusha for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 4: Fly to Kigali, Drive to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to fly to Kigali, Rwanda. On arrival, your driver will meet you and take you to your hotel or lodge near Volcanoes National Park.

The drive will take you through Rwanda’s hills. Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early, have breakfast, and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be assigned a gorilla family to track.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You will enter the tropical rainforest and search for the mountain gorillas, starting from where they were last seen.

You will have time to take photos, selfies, and ask the ranger guides questions about the gorillas.

After trekking, return to the park offices to receive your gorilla trekking certificate. Then go back to the lodge for lunch and rest. In the evening, visit the scenic Twin Lakes of Rwanda, Lake Bulera and Lake Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at your hotel or lodge.

Day 6: Kigali & Departure

After breakfast, enjoy a short city tour of Kigali. Later, your driver will take you to the airport to catch your flight home.
