Detailed 6-Day Bwindi Gorillas & Masai Mara Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali city tour & transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your private driver will pick you up at the hotel. You will have up to two hours to explore Kigali. Visit the Kigali Memorial Centre to learn about the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

You can also visit the local Kimironko market to buy fresh fruits. Later, start your trip to Bwindi National Park. The drive takes 4-5 hours.

Enjoy beautiful views in Rwanda and Uganda after crossing the Katuna or Chanika border into southwestern Uganda.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking & Batwa cultural experience

After breakfast at the gorilla lodge, drive to the park offices for briefing and registration. After being assigned a gorilla group, you will trek through the forest to find the gorillas.

The trek can take 2 to 6 hours depending on how fast you walk and where the gorillas are.

You will spend one hour observing the gorillas, watching babies play and adults groom each other. Take photos and enjoy the experience. After the trek, return to the lodge for refreshments.

Later in the afternoon, visit the Batwa community. Meet the Batwa pygmies, enjoy their traditional dances, hear their stories, and learn about their forest life.

Day 3: Bwindi to Kigali & fly to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out of your lodge. You can take a canoe or boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi, or travel directly to Kigali to catch your flight to Nairobi, Kenya.

On arrival in Nairobi, a Kenyan driver will pick you up and take you to your hotel for the night.

Day 4: Nairobi to Masai Mara to see wildebeest migration, big cats & antelopes

Maasai Mara is a vast savanna with many animals to see, including the big mammals and the wildebeest migration.

Arrive early at Maasai Mara Reserve, relax at the lodge, have lunch, then go for an afternoon game drive.

Day 5: Full day game drive – watch wildebeest migration & big cats

Start early after breakfast for a full day of wildlife viewing. Look for early-rising animals, especially big cats. Today’s main focus is the wildebeest migration.

Watch millions of wildebeests and other grazers moving in search of food and water.

Day 6: Depart Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast, pack your bags and prepare to drive back to Nairobi. On the way, enjoy a morning game drive as you leave the reserve with chances to see more animals.

You will be dropped at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight or at a Nairobi hotel.
