Day 1: Kigali City Tour, Transfer to Akagera National Park
Your Gorilla Hurly Burly driver picks you up after breakfast and briefs you on the 12-day safari. You take a short tour of Kigali, visiting the Presidential Palace and the National Museum of Rwanda, which covers the country’s history and the 1994 genocide. After lunch, you drive to Akagera National Park for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema
After breakfast, you go on a morning game drive in Akagera, spotting lions, zebras, elephants, and giraffes. After lunch, you take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see more wildlife along the shore. Overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Visit Musanze Caves
After breakfast, you travel to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you visit the Musanze Caves, once used as a crowning site for ancient Banyarwanda kings. Overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park has more than 10 habituated gorilla families. After breakfast, you attend a briefing at park headquarters before setting out on the trek, which can take 2 to 6 hours. Once you find your assigned gorilla family, you spend one hour watching them feed, play, and rest. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast, you drive south through Rwanda’s landscape, stopping at Lake Kivu for a boat ride and lunch. You continue to Nyungwe National Park for the night.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
After a briefing, you track a habituated chimpanzee troop and spend one hour watching them feed and groom. After lunch, you walk the 70-meter high, 160-meter long canopy bridge above Nyungwe Forest for views of the forest and its wildlife. Overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 7: Fly to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you return to Kigali for a regional flight to Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania, known for the annual wildebeest and zebra migration. You arrive in time for lunch and rest at your lodge.
Day 8: Full Day Game Drive
You spend the day on a game drive across the Serengeti, spotting impalas, giraffes, zebras, leopards, lions, buffaloes, and cheetahs, along with many bird species. You return to the lodge to rest in the evening.
