Detailed 5-Day Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, you check out for an 8 to 9-hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda, passing through Mbarara. You stop at the Equator for photos, lunch, and a short geography demonstration. You check in at your lodge late in the evening for dinner and rest.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Community Visit
After breakfast, you head to park headquarters, where ranger guides check your trekking documents and explain the rules. Guides lead you into the forest, starting from where the gorillas were last seen. You hike through hills and slopes, spotting other animals along the way.
Once you find the gorillas, you spend up to one hour watching them play or feed. After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch, then visit the Batwa community in the evening for traditional stories and songs. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you check out and travel to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, a trip of about 4 to 5 hours through terraced hills and small towns. You stop for lunch on the way and arrive at your lodge near the park in the evening for dinner and rest.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Twin Lakes Visit
After breakfast, you head to park headquarters for registration and a 30-minute briefing. Rangers assign you to a group of up to 8 people. Trekkers must be at least 15 years old with a valid permit.
The trek can last 1 to 7 hours, starting from where the gorillas were last seen. Along the way, you may spot forest mammals, baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and black and white colobus monkeys. Once you find the gorillas, you get up to one hour to observe and photograph them.
After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch, then visit the twin lakes for relaxation before dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Kigali City Tour and Departure
After breakfast, you check out and drive 2 to 3 hours to Kigali, passing through green hills along the way. If time allows, you take a short Kigali city tour, including the Genocide Memorial and local markets. After lunch in Kigali, you transfer to Kigali International Airport for your flight home, or to your hotel in the city.
