Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park after a city tour in Kigali

You will be picked up in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. After a short briefing about the 7-day trip, go on a short city tour. Visit Caplaki Craft Market, where you can see and buy traditional Rwandan souvenirs, handmade crafts, and local fabrics.

After lunch, drive to Akagera National Park, where you will spend the evening and stay overnight.

Day 2: Game Drive & Boat Cruise

Wake up early for breakfast, then head out for a game drive in Akagera National Park, the only Savannah park in Rwanda. You may see animals such as lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, elephants, antelopes, and more during the drive.

After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Look out for more wildlife, birds, and views of the surrounding area. After the activities, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda. Arrive in time for lunch, then visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural experience.

Learn about Rwandan traditions through activities like mock hunting, grinding millet, making banana beer, food preparation, cattle keeping, and more.

You may also take part in some of these activities yourself. After the visit, return to your lodge for rest.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking

Wake up early and have breakfast, then go to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules. With a guide, start your trek to find a specific gorilla family in the forest.

You will spend one hour with the gorillas, watching them feed, play, rest, and move around. Take pictures to keep the memories. After the trek, return to the lodge to relax.

Day 5: Drive to Nyungwe via Lake Kivu

After tea or coffee, drive to Lake Kivu for a boat ride. During the cruise, enjoy the views of Rwanda’s hills, meet local fishermen, and see the natural beauty around the lake.

After lunch, continue to Nyungwe National Park, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest

Wake up early for breakfast, then go chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. Walk through the forest to see chimpanzees in their natural home. Watch them play, swing from trees, and make different sounds.

After lunch at the lodge, go for a canopy walk above the forest. From the walkway, you will see more plants, monkeys, and birds in the forest. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 7: Departure

This is the last day of your 7-day Rwanda safari. After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. You will be dropped off at the airport for your flight or taken to a hotel for an overnight stay.
