Detailed 5-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

Detailed 5-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale National Park

After breakfast in Kampala, you drive 5 to 6 hours to Kibale Forest, known as the primate capital of the world, with a stop in Mubende for snacks along the way. On arrival, you check in at your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, you attend a briefing at Kanyanchu Visitor Center before your ranger guide leads you into the forest, a trek taking 1 to 4 hours depending on the chimps’ location. Once you find them, you spend one hour watching and photographing the group.

After lunch, you take a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp, spotting birds like the green-breasted pitta and great blue turaco, along with several monkey species.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you drive 4 to 6 hours to Bwindi through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Bwindi holds more than 19 gorilla families across four sectors: Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga, and Ruhija. You check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Visit

After breakfast, you attend a briefing at park headquarters before meeting your ranger guide at the trailhead. The trek can take 4 to 8 hours depending on the gorillas’ movement, so pack sturdy hiking shoes, water, and snacks. Once you find them, you spend one hour watching them feed, rest, or care for their young.

After the trek, you collect your certificate, then visit a nearby Batwa community, where a guide shares their traditional way of life through stories, songs, and dance, with handmade crafts available to purchase. Dinner and overnight stay follow.

Day 5: Return to Kampala, Equator Stop, and Short City Tour

After breakfast, you drive back to Kampala, stopping at the Equator in Kayabwe for photos. If time allows, a short city tour can include the Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine and Nakasero Market before you transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your flight home.
