Detailed 2-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Bisoke Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Volcanoes National Park and Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast, your Gorilla Hurly Burly driver takes you to Volcanoes National Park in time for the 7:00 AM gorilla trekking briefing at park headquarters. Rangers divide visitors into groups of eight, the maximum allowed per gorilla family each day.
The trek passes through thick forest on the lower slopes of Mount Karisimbi, Mount Huye, or Mount Bisoke, depending on which gorilla family you are assigned. You walk along narrow paths, past thorny bushes, and through dense vegetation to reach the group.
Once you find the gorillas, you spend one hour observing them at close range. Many visitors describe the moment of eye contact with a silverback as the highlight of the trip. After the hour ends, you return to park headquarters, then continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Hike Mount Bisoke and Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you head to park headquarters for a short briefing on the Mount Bisoke hike. Mount Bisoke is one of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga range, and the climb to the top takes 4 to 6 hours depending on your pace.
The trail includes rough and slippery sections, thorny trees, and a steady climb toward the summit. At the top, you get wide views across the Virunga mountains, the surrounding green hills, and nearby towns.
After the hike, you have lunch and drive back to Kigali in time for your flight out.
