Gorilla Trekking in February – February is one of the dry months in Uganda, making it a good time for a rewarding trekking experience.

This month receives little rainfall, usually between 50 to 100mm, which keeps the trails less muddy compared to other months.

Temperatures in February are warm during the day, ranging from 25 to 28°C, and drop to around 15°C at night.

The journey begins early in the morning at the lodge, where tourists use a 4×4 safari vehicle to reach the park headquarters.

At the headquarters, guides welcome the tourists, brief them on park rules and regulations, and form groups of eight people, each group assigned to trek a specific gorilla family.

After understanding every detail of the briefing, the group, together with their guide, begins the trek along a trail lit by the morning light.

The trails pass through thick forest canopies, and the atmosphere is filled with the distant calls of birds and small mammals.

While walking, sturdy hiking shoes help tourists remain stable and maintain a steady pace.

Some tourists may find a family of gorillas after 30 minutes, while others may take up to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. When the gorillas are finally seen, tourists often feel a wave of excitement. The gorillas may be spotted feeding, playing, or the silverback showing his leadership and guarding the family.

Tourists are reminded to follow the rules during the encounter, including keeping silent and maintaining a distance of 7 meters from the gorillas.

The time allowed with the gorillas is one hour. After this, tourists are asked to leave so the gorillas can continue with their daily activities.
