Detailed 4-Day Bwindi Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On the first day, you will be picked up from your hotel or the airport after meeting your private safari driver. You will be given a short briefing about the trip before starting the journey to southern Uganda.

On the way, you will pass green landscapes, small towns, and local markets. You will stop at the Uganda Equator for about 30 minutes to take photos, do a simple water experiment, and buy snacks.

Lunch will be served at the Igongo Cultural Center. After lunch, continue the journey to the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

When you arrive, check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Buhoma is in the northern part of Bwindi. It has four gorilla groups open for trekking all year. These groups are Katwe, Mubare, Habinyanja, and Rushegura. Each day, 32 permits are available in this area.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

After breakfast, go to the Buhoma park office for registration and a briefing about gorilla trekking rules. You will be assigned a habituated gorilla group.

Start the trek with the help of armed ranger guides and porters. As you move through the forest, you may see animals such as elephants, bushbucks, forest buffaloes, duikers, giant forest hogs, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, birds, and butterflies.

The trek may take from 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. When you find them, you will spend one hour watching and taking photos.

After the trek, return to the park office to get your gorilla trekking certificate. Then go back to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer to the eastern side of Bwindi for the second trekking experience.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, prepare for your second gorilla trek in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi. Ruhija is in the eastern part of the park and has four gorilla groups.

Only three of them are open for tourism. One is reserved for research.

At the park office, you will be briefed again before starting the trek. The walk takes you through thick forest and misty hills filled with birds, animals, butterflies, and trees.

The trek may take between 30 minutes and 4 hours before you find the gorillas. When you do, you will spend one hour watching, taking photos, and asking questions about them.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, travel to Lake Bunyonyi. You can enjoy a community walk or take a boat ride to explore some of the 29 islands. This is a relaxing activity after two days of trekking.

Day 4: Return to Entebbe or Kampala & Departure

After breakfast, start the drive back to Entebbe or Kampala. You will stop in Mbarara Town for lunch and later visit the Mpambire drum makers to buy souvenirs.

This will be the end of your 4-Day Double Gorilla Trek in Bwindi.
