3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour in Volcanoes National Park

3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tour in Volcanoes National Park

The 3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour in Volcanoes National Park is one of the shortest gorilla safaris. It is perfect for business travelers who only have three days, especially over a weekend.

This tour can also be added to a longer East African safari. It gives you a chance to visit one of the 10 habituated gorilla groups in Volcanoes National Park, found in the northwestern part of Rwanda.

Your 3-day gorilla tour starts and ends in Kigali. It includes time with one of these gorilla families: Ugenda, Sabyinyo, Karisimbi (Susa B), Kwitonda, Bwenge, Agashya (Group 13), Susa A, Umubano, Amahoro, or Hirwa.

Detailed 3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Arrive at Kigali International Airport and meet your private safari driver. After a short briefing, start the drive to Volcanoes National Park. You will travel through quiet countryside and enjoy views along the way.

The journey takes about 3 hours. You will arrive in time for dinner and an overnight stay near the rainforest.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, go to the Kinigi Park Headquarters for registration and a gorilla trekking briefing. Before entering the forest, make sure you have hiking boots, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, a walking stick, packed lunch, and enough drinking water.

The trekking time is not fixed. It can take between 30 minutes and 4 hours to find the gorillas. The location depends on weather, movement, food availability, and where the gorillas were the day before.

Once you find the gorilla group, you are allowed to spend one hour with them. During this time, watch them play, eat, and interact with each other.

After trekking, return to your lodge for lunch. If time allows, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a local cultural experience. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive back to Kigali. On arrival, take a short city tour. You may visit the craft market to buy handmade items and souvenirs, the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and the National Museum.

The number of places you visit depends on how much time you have. After the tour, your driver will take you to the airport. This marks the end of your 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari.

End of 3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Safari.
